Taking a look at the questions and assumed locks for the upcoming 2018 NFL season.
Kansas City Chiefs will be starting second year quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs line up Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. All three are sure fire picks to do well in 2018.
–Kareem Hunt will get 300+ touches/targets. A concern for myself is his consistency week in and week out. He already led the league in rushing and displayed his pass catching abilities. But for the mid part of the season, he disappeared. Word is Andy Reid wants to use him consistently in 2018. Reid does feed backs the ball dating back to his Philly days with Brian Westbrook and Lesean McCoy. For me, Hunt has a high floor with a chance for consistency and increased usage outta the backfield. I’m not worried about Spencer Ware returning, didn’t roster him in previous years and have Hunt being great late first round pick!
–Tyreek Hill is going as high as round 2 and I’m finding him available in round 3 often. Hill should see close to 100+ targets in 2018. He relied on the big play often in his previous two seasons. I mean, Hill is one of the only players that could for say, duplicate the big play scores yearly. It is unlikely but wrting him off completely is not happening. The QUESTIONS around the Mahomes/Hill connection is my concern. There might just be another explosive Fantasy Season for Hill in 2018. I’m likely to draft him because he is in his prime and I could easily see him out of football come a few years from now. Draft him while you can!
–Patrick Mahomes has a cannon right? So that means the deep ball to Hill. What about the short to intermediate route in which Hill breaks it off? Surely, the Chiefs see Mahomes as a stud and Andy Reid has a history of grooming quarterbacks to perform in both Fantasy and real life football. Mahomes is a late round pick as of now. Excited to see him perform in training camp. Upside is here now if you want to take the risk.
–Sammy Watkins has got to be where its at in 2018. His ADP is as a wide receiver thirty something and dude signed a 3 year/$48 million contract. Sammy is the guy who will benefit from Mahomes being able to throw the deep ball. Sammy has shown in limited usage he can play from the slot as well. So its not a shock the Chiefs appear to be utilizing him more than Buffalo did. Still, Andy Reid may utilize a player one week and dismiss him the next. Hence the concerns with taking Kareem Hunt as a high end rb 1 or a late round 1 rb 1.
-Travis Kelce, Kareem Hunt and Sammy Watkins are 3rd down weapons like no other but will Mahomes be accurate enough? With Alex Smith in Kansas City. I knew what exactly to expect and now Im opening up the expectations as I think the Chiefs will do with their offense. We will see slight changes from week to week with each player presenting big play opportunity.
Drafting tight end Travis Kelce in rounds 2, 3 or 4 is what his ADP presents us. Round 3 or 4 sounds good to me and is a matter of your roster construction/preference.
Target Sammy Watkins as a receiver 30+ and scoop up Kareem Hunt late round 1. Mid round 1 is a tough decision with DeAndre Hopkins, Alvin Kamara and Saquon Barkley on the board.
